A Hector man was taken to a Twin Cities Hospital with serious head trauma after a head-on crash Saturday evening near Hector.
22-year-old Cody Kirgiss was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbindale for treatment.
The State Patrol says Olivia Police were checking on a driving complaint north of Hwy 212 on 11th St N. After locating the suspect vehicle, driven by Kirgiss, Olivia PD began pursuit on Hwy 212. A Renville County Sheriff Deputy had stopped his squad car with emergency lights activated in the eastbound lane of Hwy 212 at 21st St. Traffic to the rear of the deputy had stopped. Kirgiss was still traveling WB Hwy 212, crossed over the centerline and struck the squad car head-on. The squad was unoccupied at the time but was pushed into a vehicle parked on the shoulder. The Kirgiss vehicle rolled onto its right side and caught fire.
The driver of the vehicle behind the squad car, a 64-year-old Blomkest man, was not injured.
The crash happened just after 7pm Saturday.
