ANGELS NOTES:

·    The Angels lost to the Twins 8-6 to ensure the series loss and have now dropped seven of their last nine games…the Angels 4-10 start to the season is tied for the worst start in franchise history, also 4-10 in 1961…the Angels lost to the Twins for just the third time in their last eight games…despite the loss, LA has beat the Twins in 11 of their last 17 games…the Angels allowed 15 hits tonight, the seventh game this season they have allowed double-digit hits and the most hits they have allowed since allowing 18 hits on August 23, 2012 at Boston…Jason Vargas exited after 3.1 innings today, the Angels have had just one starter pitch into the seventh inning this season…Angels starters are 2-7, 6.07 ERA (75.2 IP, 51 ER) this season.

·    Jason Vargas allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks in 3.1 innings…it was the shortest outing since going 3.0 innings in a start July 20, 2011 at Toronto as a member of the Mariners…Vargas has made four career starts at Target Field and has posted a 9.14 ERA (18.2 IP, 19 ER) with 11 strikeouts.

·    Luis Jimenez finished the night going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored…he has five hits in his last 14 at-bats since being recalled on Friday.

·    Mark Trumbo went 2-for-4 tonight and now has at least one hit in 12 of his 14 games played this season…he has reached base safely in each of his 14 games played in 2013…it was also his sixth multi-hit game of the season, second behind Trout (7) among Angels.

·    Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and three RBI tonight…he hit a two-out double in the top of the ninth inning driving in two runs for his first multi-RBI game of the season…he has eight hits in his last four games.

·    Chris Iannetta went 2-for-3 tonight after collecting just two hits in his previous 20 at-bats coming into today.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

·    The Twins won their second straight game tonight by a score of 8-6…the Twins ensured the series win tonight and are now 3-2-0 in series play this season… the Twins set their season-high by collecting 15 hits tonight, the second straight night they have set their season-high for hits (12 hits last night)…the last time the Twins had at least 15 hits in a game was when they had 16 on September 18, 2012 at Cleveland…the Twins have won three of the last four games against the Angels, dating back to May 8, 2012 at Target Field.

·    Mike Pelfrey allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in 5.0 innings…it was his second start of 2013 at home, each at least 5.0 innings…Pelfrey’s two strikeouts were the most in a start this season…with the win, Pelfrey is now 11-7 in April in his career…he is also now 3-0 in his three career starts against the Angels.

·    Joe Mauer extended his current hit-streak to nine games with a single in the first inning tonight…he finished the night going 4-for-5 with three RBI…over the streak has hit .462 (18-for-39) with two home runs and seven RBI…Mauer collected a hit in his first three at-bats of the night, and the final three at-bats last night, to tally six straight plate appearances with a hit…the six straight plate appearances with a hit are the most since he also collected a hit in six plate appearances July 26-27, 2010 vs. Kansas City…his career-high is eight straight plate appearances with a hit June 26-28, 2006…Mauer collected his second straight game with at least four hits tonight (also 4-for-5 last night)…it is the first time having back-to-back four-hit games since June 26 (4 hits) and 27 (5 hits), 2006 vs. Los Angeles-NL…Mauer also collected three RBI in back-to-back games for the first time since August 7 and 8, 2009 at Detroit.

·    Brian Dozier drove in two runs in the sixth inning tonight and finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk…it marked his first career game as the leadoff hitter…tonight was his second multi-hit game of the season, the other coming on April 5 at Baltimore and was also his second multi-RBI game, also April 5.

·    Ryan Doumit hit his fourth double of the season in the third inning, and later scored the go-ahead run…it was his first run scored in his last eight games.

·    Wilkin Ramirez returned from the Paternity List prior to tonight’s game and finished going 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and a run scored…it was his second career multi-hit game, the other coming September 10, 2009 at Kansas City with Detroit…Ramirez left tonight’s game with a back contusion in the bottom of the fifth inning after being hit by a pickoff attempt at first base…he is considered day-to-day.
