ORIOLES NOTES:

·    The Orioles took the series win today with a 6-0 win over the Twins…the O’s shutout an opponent for the second time this season, other being April 26 at Oakland…since April 19, 2011 the Orioles are 14-6 against the Twins…Baltimore leads the all-time series in Minneapolis 151-146…the Orioles are 5-4 against the AL Central, 16-9 when scoring first in a game and 14-9 on the road this season.

·    Wei-Yin Chen allowed five hits and struckout three over 5.0 scoreless innings….it was his second start of the season in which he did not allow a run (also April 26 at Oakland)…he did not walk a batter for the third time in his eight starts this season…with the win, Chen is now 4-0, 4.09 ERA (22.0 IP, 10 ER) in his four career road starts against the AL Central…Chen left today’s game after the fifth inning with a right oblique strain.

·    Chris Davis hit his 11th home run of the season with a first inning two-run shot to center field…it was his second home run in his last four games and he has seven RBI in those four games…it was his eighth road home run of the season, his seven road homers were tied for the AL lead coming into today…has hit safely in four-straight games…the six RBI today mark his sixth game this season with at least three RBI, his first since April 28.

·    Manny Machado finished the day going 3-for-4….he has now hit safely in 11 of his last 12 road games, hitting .455 (25-for-55) with three home runs, nine RBI and 13 runs scored in those 12…Machado has at least one hit in seven of his last eight games, 18 of his last 20 and 20 of last 24…with three hits tonight, he now has 16 multi-hit games this season and multi-hit efforts in 10 of his last 15 games…over his last 19 games he has 12 multi-hit games, including nine doubles, a triple, three home runs and 13 RBI…has three hits in each of his last three games, the first Oriole with three-plus hits in three straight games since Melvin Mora 8/13-15/2008.

·    Adam Jones hit his fifth home run of the season with a solo shot in the third inning…it was his first home run since April 27 at Oakland, a span of 13 games and 55 at-bats without a home run…has an average of .444 (12-for-27) against the Twins this season with three doubles and seven RBI…he has a 13-game hitting streak against the Twins, hitting .419 (26-for-62) in that span…the 13-game streak is the longest streak by an opponent against the Twins among active players.

·    Nick Markakis finished the day going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored…it marked his fourth straight multi-hit game, and 14th of the season…it is the first time Markakis has had four straight multi-hit games since he had five straight from June 25-30, 2011…since the start of the 2012 season Markakis is hitting .519 (27-for-52) against the Twins, the highest by any major league hitter against an opponent (min. 40 PA).

·    Steve Pearce hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot in the sixth inning to center field…11 of his 15 career homers have come off lefties.

·    Tommy Hunter tossed a scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout in today’s game…he now has 10 straight scoreless (15.2 IP) appearances (since April 12) with three walks and 12 strikeouts.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

·    The Twins lost to the Orioles 6-0 today, finishing the season series with a 3-3 record against the O’s…the Twins were shutout for the second time this season, the other begin April 10 at Kansas City…despite the loss, the Twins have won four of their last six games…Parmelee collected the Twins 14th outfield assist of the season, getting Snyder out at home in the second inning…the Twins came into today tied for the MLB lead in OF assists.

·    Scott Diamond allowed a season-high six runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings…it was his shortest outing since going 4.1 innings in his first start of the season, April 13 vs. NYM…Diamond walked three batters in today’s game, he had walked just three batters in his previous five starts (29.2 IP)…Diamond is now 0-3 (3 starts) at Target Field this season and 3-0 (3 starts) on the road.

·    Joe Mauer singled in the fourth inning today to extend his current season-high hit-streak to 11-games…over the 11 games, Mauer is hitting .444 (20-for-45)…he now has 14 multi-hit games this season after a double in the sixth inning…the double was the 15th of the season, coming into today he was tied for second in the majors in doubles…with a walk in the eighth inning he has now reached base three-or-more times in seven of his last eight games.

·    Justin Morneau finished the day going 1-for-3…Morneau has a hit in eight straight games, 11 of his last 12 and 14 of last 16.

·    The Twins will be showcasing the St. Paul Saints uniforms (for May 30th vs. MIL) in the Twins Press Conference room at 2:30pm tomorrow.
