WHITE SOX NOTES:

·    The White Sox defeated the Twins 9-4 today to take the series against the Twins…Chicago has won 14 of the last 19 games and 24 of the last 33 against the Twins…they are now 7-9 against the AL Central, 9-12 on the road and 15-15 vs. right-handed starters…Chicago has a record of 4-5-4 in series play this season…the nine runs scored by the White Sox tied their season-high (also done three other times with the last being April 17 at Toronto)…set their season-high by collecting 14 hits on the day, the most hits in a game since October 3, 2012 when they had 16 hits.

·    Dylan Axelrod allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out four in 5.1 innings…earned his first win of the season, and first win since August 29, 2012 at Baltimore…all three of his career wins have come on the road…the 5.1 innings were the fewest since tossing 3.2 on April 11 at Washington…White Sox starters have posted a 2.65 ERA (85.0 IP, 25 ER) in their last 13 games.

·    Adam Dunn (3-for-4) hit his eighth and ninth home runs of the season…it was his second straight game with a home run after going nine games without a homer…the first home run tied him with Darrell Evans (414) for 47th on MLB’s all-time list and his second passed Evans for sole possession…he has five home runs in his last six games against the Twins, three of them at Target Field…today marked just his third multi-RBI game in 35 games this season…the five RBI were the most since September 24, 2012 vs. Cleveland (four RBI)…35th career multi-homer game and first of 2013 (last coming on September 24, 2012 vs. Cleveland)…it was his first career multi-home run game against the Twins…three hits today were the most since having three on August 13, 2012 at Toronto.

·    Dayan Viciedo (1-for-3) hit his fourth home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning off Pelfrey…it was his 35th career home run…has a hit in nine of his last 10 games…has an RBI in three straight games (four total RBI in those three).

·    Alex Rios (3-for-4) hit his first triple of the season in the first inning and now has 50 career triples…his last triple came on September 16 also at Minnesota…is hitting .468 (22-for-47) with five doubles in his last 12 games at Target Field (since June 25, 2012)…lifetime, he is hitting .372 (42-for-113) in 29 games here with his 42 hits being the second most among all opponents, trailing only Miguel Cabrera with 43…he extended his current hit streak to 10-games today (dating back to May 5)…second 10-game hit-streak of the season (other coming April 1-12 to begin the season)…tied season-high with three runs scored (also May 8 at NYM).

·    Alexei Ramirez (1-for-5) has hit safely in 38 of 46 career games at Minnesota (Dome and Target Field), hitting .330 (59-for-179) here.

·    Conor Gillaspie (2-for-4) collected his team-high 11th multi-hit game today…has three multi-hit games in his last four starts…he leads all AL rookies with 29 hits.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

·    The Twins fell to the White Sox by a score of 9-4 and are now 3-2 against the Sox this season with 14 games remaining in the season series (7 at Target Field, 7 at U.S. Cellular Field)…the Twins are now 9-10 at Target Field this season and 7-10 vs. the AL Central.

·    Mike Pelfrey allowed five runs on eight hits, two walks and two home runs while striking out three in 4.0 innings…it was his shortest start since going 2.0 innings on April 9 at Kansas City…the five runs tied his season-high (April 23 vs. Miami)…has lost four of his last seven starts…Twins are 3-5 in his eight starts this season.

·    Joe Mauer (3-for-5) extended his hitting streak to a season-high 14 games, marking his longest since May 5-21, 2009 (also 14 games); also marks the third longest of his career…he has two career streaks longer than his active streak: August 8-24, 2008 (16 games) and August 2-18, 2009 (15 games)…with a single in the second inning Mauer now has 15 multi-hit games this season, seven of which have come during his streak…his 14 multi-hit games coming into today were tied for ninth in the AL…had his eighth three-hit game of the season, entered today tied for third most three-hit games in baseball (7); only Jed Lowrie and James Loney had seven.

·    Eduardo Escobar (1-for-4) hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot in the second inning…he now has five extra-base hits in 26 games this season, as many as he had in 50 games in 2012 (4 doubles, 1 triple)…each of his last two hits are for extra-bases…Escobar is hitting .316 (6-for-19) with a home run and five RBI in seven games against his former team (White Sox).

·    Justin Morneau (2-for-5) extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games and is hitting .422 (19-for-45) in that span…he has hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games, batting .368 (28-for-76) in that span.

·    Josh Willingham (1-for-4) drove in his 17th run of the season with a first inning single…he followed it up with an RBI ground out in the sixth inning…he has reached base safely in 31 of his 33 games played.

·    Jamey Carroll (3-for-5) drove in a run on a season-high three hits today…the three hits were the most since October 1, 2012 at Toronto (also three).

·    Pedro Florimon (0-for-2) stole his fourth base of the season in the sixth inning making him four-for-four in steal attempts…the Twins have been successful in 13 of their last 16 attempts (since April 15).
