Motorists will encounter a larger detour area on Highway 4 in Cosmos as stage two of the project begins on Thursday, June 6th, weather permitting, as crews will begin work on the south side of
Highway 7 to the south fork of the Crow River. Stage one of the project consisted of construction on Highway 4 from Highway 7 to Northern Cross Avenue and included East Gemini Avenue.
The reconstruction includes grading, paving, sidewalk construction, water main replacement, sewer construction, landscaping and installation of pedestrian accessible ramps and signals.
The $4.48 million project received a $1.96 million Better Roads grant awarded as part of the Transportation, Community, and System Preservation Program.
Reiner Contracting is the contractor and the project will provide a safer and more reliable highway for residents, pedestrians and motorists.
MnDot officials say motorists should always drive with caution, slowdown in work zones and never enter a road or lane blocked with barriers or cones.
