A 19-year-old Gibbon man is in custody in Nicollet County after leading authorities on a car chase on Highway 14 and across a muddy field.
Landon Mitchell Lauwagie had been pulled over for speeding by a state trooper, but after handing over his license, which was suspended, he allegedly rolled up his window, locked his car door, and sped away.
Lauwagie eventually drove into a ditch to a frontage road, but authorities anticipated his route and deployed “Stop Sticks” to deflate his tires. He then drove the car into a field and escaped on foot.
He was found hiding in a drainage ditch, and was chased to a nearby farm, where he was surrounded and taken into custody.
If convicted, he faces up to 3 years in prison for fleeing police in a motor vehicle. He was also charged with driving under the influence.
