ROYALS NOTES:

·    The Royals lost to the Twins tonight, their third loss in their last four games at Target Field dating back to 2012…the Royals have dropped six of their last eight games overall and fall to 15-13 against AL Central opponents this season…the Royals scored one run tonight, the 13th time this season they have scored one-run-or-less…KC is now 17-21 on the road this season.

·    Jeremy Guthrie allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings tonight…it marked his ninth quality start in his 16 starts this season…he has allowed two earned-runs-or-less in four of his last six starts, since May 30…the four strikeouts tonight were the most in his last three starts…with the loss, Guthrie has now dropped each of his last three starts…he is now 6-3, 3.30 ERA (71.0 IP, 26 ER) in his 10 career starts against the Twins…tonight marked his 30th career start as a Royal and he is now 12-9 with KC.

·    Salvador Perez (3-for-4) hit his fourth home run of the season with a solo homer in the fifth inning of Deduno…it was his 18th career home run, and his 10thcareer solo shot…it was also his third career homer against the Twins, which is tied most against any team (also three against Detroit and Chicago-AL)…it was his third straight game with a hit…over those three games he is hitting .500 (6-for-12) with a home run, two doubles and two RBI…he singled in the seventh inning for his 19th multi-hit game of the season, which is third among all Royals.

·    Alcides Escobar (1-for-4) has at least one hit in six of the seven games against the Twins this season…in those seven he is hitting .308 (8-for-26)…dating back to 2012, he has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 against the Twins, hitting .325 (13-for-40) in that span.

·    Billy Butler (1-for-3) collected a single in the seventh inning tonight…he has at least one hit in each of his last 19 games against the Twins, hitting .392 (29-for-74) with three home runs and 14 RBI in that span…he has a career average of .310 (124-for-400) against the Twins in 103 games.

·    Lorenzo Cain (1-for-1) snapped a personal 0-for-last-18 with a pinch-hit two-out double in the ninth inning tonight…he is a career .444 (4-for-9) as a pinch hitter.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

·    The Twins defeated the Royals for just the second time this season (2-5)…the Twins are now 15-19 against AL Central opponents this season and have won six of their last nine against the AL Central…the Twins improve to 20-17 at Target Field this season and 11-4 in their last 15 at home…Minnesota is 6-4 vs. KC at home since the start of the 2012 season.

·    Tonight’s game lasted 2 hours and 29 minutes, the shortest game of the season for the Twins…it was the shortest game since August 27, 2012 vs. Seattle (2:09).

·    Samuel Deduno allowed just one run on five hits and one walk while striking out three in 7.0 innings tonight…the 7.0 innings tied his season-high…Deduno has allowed one run-or-less in three of his seven starts this season…he has tossed a quality outing in four of his seven on the year and at least 6.0 innings in all but two starts in 2013…Deduno improves to 3-0, 1.71 ERA (21.0 IP, 4 ER) in three starts at Target Field this season.

·    Trevor Plouffe (1-for-3) extended his current hit-streak to nine games with a single in the seventh inning, tying his season-high (also May 12-June 15)…over the nine games he is hitting .306 (11-for-36) with a double, six RBI and a walk.

·    Joe Mauer (0-for-4) snapped his eight-game hit-streak tonight…over the eight games he hit .444 (16-for-36) with two homers and five RBI.

·    Justin Morneau (2-for-4) hit his 19th double of the season, driving in a run in the Twins two-run fourth inning…he hit his 20th double of the season in the sixth inning…the two doubles tied him with Harmon Killebrew (277) for 11th in franchise history (since 1901)…his 277 career doubles are 28 behind Rod Carew (305) on the Twins all-time list (since 1961)…he is now six doubles shy of his 2012 total (26)…tonight marked his second multi-double game of the season, also May 13 vs. Chicago-AL (2)…Morneau is second among all Twins with 24 multi-hit games this season.

·    Oswaldo Arcia (1-for-3) extended his current hit-streak to five games with an RBI single in the fourth inning to put the Twins up 2-0…he now has 23 RBI on the season, coming into today he led all AL rookies in RBI.

·    Clete Thomas (1-for-4) scored the Twins first run of the game tonight…he has at least one run scored in each of his last five games, and at least one in eight  of his last  nine games…in those nine games he has crossed the plate 11 times…he has eight runs scored this season in eight games at the Twins leadoff hitter.

·    Josh Willingham (1-for-3) has a hit in 18 of his last 22 games against the Royals, since the start of the 2012 season…he has reached base safely in 59 of his 68 games played in 2013.
