Wild pulls off two trades over weekend 01 Jul 13

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired a sixth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and the rights to restricted free agent forward Benn Ferriero from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Justin Falk.

 

Ferriero, 26 (4/29/87), recorded one assist in four games with the New York Rangers in 2012-13 and recorded 30 points (8-22=30) in 57 American Hockey League (AHL) contests with Connecticut and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

 

Falk, 24 (10/11/88), collected three assists and 40 penalty minutes (PIM) in 36 regular season games with the Wild in 2012-13 and appeared in four playoff contests. He compiled 15 points (1-14=15) and 100 penalty minutes (PIM) in 108 career NHL games with Minnesota. Falk was originally selected by the Wild in the fourth-round (No. 110 overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

 

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired RW Nino Niederreiter (NEED-her-ay-ter) from the New York Islanders in exchange for RW Cal Clutterbuck and a third-round selection (70th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

 

Niederreiter, 20, ranked T-6th in the American Hockey League with 28 goals in 2012-13, adding 22 assists and 38 PIM in 74 games with Bridgeport. He also led Switzerland with five goals, and added three assists in the 2013 IIHF Men’s World Championship, as the Swiss earned a silver medal – its first World Championship medal in 60 years. The native of Chur, Switzerland posted three points (2-1=3) in and 20 penalty minutes (PIM) in 64 games with the Islanders over parts of two seasons. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound forward was originally selected by the Islanders as the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.

 

Clutterbuck, 25, posted 10 points (4-6=10), 27 PIM and led Minnesota with 155 hits in 42 games with the Wild in 2013. The native of Welland, Ontario totaled 110 points (62-48=110) in 346 games with Minnesota during parts of six seasons. The 5-foot-11, 213-pound forward was selected by Minnesota in the third round (72nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

 

The Wild began Sunday by acquiring a sixth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and the rights to restricted free agent Benn Ferriero from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Justin Falk.
