An official deployment ceremony was held Sunday at the Litchfield Civic Arena for a Litchfield-based Minnesota National Guard unit that will leave Tuesday for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.
The 849th Mobility Augmentation Company will complete pre-deployment training in Ft. Bliss, Texas, prior to deploying this fall to Afghanistan.
A total of 95 soldiers will deploy. The unit is expected to return sometime next summer.
The West Central Tribune report that a public send-off will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday when the soldiers will board buses bound for Texas, where they will complete training.
The send-off will begin on East 10th Street, head south on U.S. Highway 12/North Sibley Avenue and continue east on Highway 12.
Community members are being asked to line the route to help send off the soldiers.
