ROYALS NOTES:

  • ·    The Royals defeated the Twins tonight to extend their season-high winning streak to eight games…the eight-game streak is the longest streak by the Royals since winning nine in a row to begin the 2003 season…over the eight-game streak the Royals pitching staff has allowed 11 earned runs in 75.0 innings pitched for an ERA of 1.32…the Royals are now 9-3 against the Twins this season and 26-19 against the American League Central.
  • ·    Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five in 6.0 innings…he has tossed at least 6.0 innings in each of his last seven starts, including four quality starts in those seven…he has struckout at least five batters in each of his last three starts…he earned his 11th win of the season tonight, and his third straight win in his last three starts…the 11 wins tie his career-high, also done in 2010 when he went 11-14…in 11 career starts against the Twins he is 7-3, 3.29 ERA (76.2 IP, 28 ER) with eight quality starts…he has won three of his four starts against the Twins in 2013, going 3-1, 3.24 (25.0 IP, 9 ER).
  • ·    David Lough (3-for-4) collected his third multi-hit game in his last six games with a double and two singles in tonight’s game…he is a career .347 (17-for-49) hitter in 12 career games against the Twins…six of those 12 games have been multi-hit…two of his six games with at least three hits have come at Target Field.

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins lost to the Royals tonight for their third straight loss…Minnesota is now 4-5 in their last nine games and 8-6 in their last 14…the Twins are now 18-24 against the AL Central and 3-9 against the Royals this season…tonight marked their third double-digit hit game in 11 games since the All-Star break.
  • ·    Kevin Correia allowed two runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out three in 6.0 innings tonight…he has tossed at least 6.0 innings in three of his last five starts and in eight of his last 12 starts…tonight was the first time he did not issue a walk since June 19 vs. Chicago-AL and the fourth time in 21 starts this season…he is still winless in his four career starts against the Royals with a record of 0-2, 5.01 ERA (23.1 IP, 13 ER) with eight walks and nine strikeouts…11 of his 21 starts this season have been quality outings.
  • ·    Pedro Florimon (1-for-3) hit his seventh home run of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning tonight off Guthrie…his seven home runs are tied with Stephen Drew for sixth most among AL shortstops this season…all eight of his career home runs have come as a left-handed hitter.
  • ·    Joe Mauer (2-for-4) has at least one hit in 11 of his last 12 games…he is hitting .467 (21-for-45) with five RBI in those 12 games…Mauer has raised his season average 19 points in 13 games since July 8, going from .309 to .328…he is now hitting .340 (163-for-479) in 128 career games against the Royals.
  • ·    Trevor Plouffe (1-for-4) drove in a run with a double in the eighth inning…it was his first extra-base hit since a home run on July 13 at New York-AL and just his second RBI in his last 11 games.
  • ·    Clete Thomas (1-for-5) has reached base safely in 32 of his last 35 starts since June 14…he has hit leadoff in 16 games this season for the Twins, hitting .235 (16-for-68) with 12 runs scored.
  • ·    Chris Herrmann (1-for-3) started his sixth career game in the outfield tonight and recorded his first career outfield assist, getting Hosmer at third on a Butler flyout…he also collected the first hit of the game for the Twins with a single in the second inning…he earned his 10th RBI of the season with a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning…was the 30th outfield assist by the Twins this season, the most in baseball.
