  • ·    The Astros lost to the Twins in their first ever game at Target Field, 4-3 in 13 innings…Houston is now 3-3 in extra-inning games this season…Houston is now 9-12 all-time against the Twins and 5-5 in Minnesota…the Astros are now 16-46 when opponents score first in a game, 18-35 on the road, 9-49 when scoring three runs-or-less and 6-40 when not hitting a home run in a game.
  • ·    Jarred Cosart allowed just one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four in 7.0 innings…it was his fourth career start, all four of which have been quality starts…his season ERA is now 0.96 (28.0 IP, 3 ER)…the four strikeouts tonight tie his career-high, also done on July 23 vs. Oakland…the one walk was the fewest in any of his four starts…in three starts on the road this season he is 1-0, 0.86 ERA (21.0 IP, 2 ER)…he is the second pitcher in the last 100 years (Wayne Simpson in 1970 with Cincinnati) with at least 6.0 innings and one or fewer earned runs in each of his first four career appearances (Elias Sports Bureau)…he is also the first MLB pitcher with an ERA under 1.00 in his first four starts since Jorge Campillo (0.56) for the Mariners and Braves in 2005-08 (Elias).
  • ·    L.J. Hoes (1-for-2) drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth with an RBI double…it was his second career hit and first career double…both of his two career hits have driven in runs.
  • ·    Robbie Grossman (1-for-4) walked in the fifth inning tonight, his 14th straight game reaching base safely…in those 14 games he is hitting .288 (15-for-52) with three doubles, nine walks and two RBI…with a single in the 13th inning he extended his current hit-streak to five games, batting .500 (8-for-16) in that span…stole his fourth base of the season in the fifth inning and the second in his last five games.
  • ·    Jason Castro (1-for-6) drove in two runs with a bases loaded single in the fifth inning to put the Astros up 2-1…he has six RBI in his last three games and is hitting .357 (5-for-14) with two doubles and a home run in those three games…his 92 hits this season are the most by an Astros catcher since Brad Ausmus had 101 hits in 139 games in 2006.
  • ·    Jake Elmore (0-for-3) reached base via walk twice tonight…it was his first time on base since having singling on July 22 vs. Oakland, a span of four games without a hit (0-for-9)…it was the third game of his career with multiple walks, all coming in 2013.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins earned their fourth walk-off win tonight, beating the Astros 4-3 in 13 innings…the Twins are now 6-6 in extra-inning games this season…Minnesota snaps their three-game losing streak with the win…the Twins are 12-9 all-time against the Astros and 5-5 in Minnesota…the Twins earned their 23rd come-from-behind victory tonight…Minnesota is now 11-6 against the AL West this season and 37-19 when scoring four-or-more runs.
  • ·    Samuel Deduno allowed two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five in 6.0 innings tonight…it was his third straight quality start and his ninth quality outing in his 13 starts this season…he has allowed four hits-or-less in each of his last three starts…the no decision snaps his streak of three straight starts earning a win…his ERA at home is now 2.45 (33.3 IP, 9 ER).
  • ·    Justin Morneau (2-for-6) hit his 27th double of the season in the sixth inning…it was his 284th career double and he now needs 21 doubles to tie Rod Carew for fourth on the Twins all-time list, since 1961…he tied the game with an RBI single in the eighth inning to knot the score 2-2…it was his 55th RBI of the season and his third RBI since the All-Star break…over his last eight games at Target Field he is hitting .313 (10-for-32) with three home runs, four RBI and three doubles.
  • ·    Oswaldo Arcia (2-for-6) snapped a personal 0-for-last-21 with a single in the fourth inning…over the hitless streak he had 13 strikeouts…it was his first hit since a single in the fourth inning on July 8 at Tampa Bay…tonight was his first multi-hit game since July 5 at Toronto and first at Target Field since July 2 vs. New York-AL.
  • ·    Brian Dozier (3-for-7) drove in the winning run with a single to right field in the 13th inning with two outs…it was the Twins third walk-off of the season and the first since Ryan Doumit hit a two-run triple with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning June 1 vs. Seattle…Dozier also tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a single to center field…he extended his current hit-streak to nine-games with a double in the eighth inning…over the nine games he is hitting .286 (12-for-42) with five doubles, a home run, three walks and four RBI…he has four hit-streaks of at least six games this season…the double was his 20th of the season, coming into today he was fifth among AL second basemen in doubles and his 12 doubles since July 1 were second in the MLB…he has 36 hits in his last 38 games, 16 of which are doubles…tonight was his first multi-hit game since July 21 vs. Cleveland.
  • ·    Jared Burton tossed a perfect inning with one strikeout tonight…he extended his current scoreless inning streak to 11.1 innings, the longest for Burton since a 16.2 scoreless streak from June 12-July 29, 2012.
  • ·    Kevin Correia pinch-hit with a sacrifice bunt in the 13th inning, marking the seventh time in club history a Twins pitcher made a plate appearance in an American League game…the last to do so was Bobby Korecky May 19, 2008 vs. Texas (single off Frank Francisco).
