Minnesota Republican State Senator Julianne Ortman of Chanhassen announced her candidacy Saturday to run against incumbent Democrat Al Franken next year in the race for U.S. Senate.
Ortman made the announcement in Waconia at City Center Park.
Ortman, former head of the Senate Taxes Committee, represents District 47. An attorney and former deputy state Senate leader, she’s represented Carver County since 2002.
Republicans Mike McFadden, a Sunfish Lake businessman, and Jim Abeler, an eight-term state representative from Anoka have also announced their intentions to run against Franken.
