INDIANS NOTES:

  • ·    The Indians defeated the Twins 9-8 in 12 innings today…the Indians are now 8-2 in extra-innings this season and 3-0 on the road…Cleveland is 14-12 since the All-Star Break…Cleveland is 29-25 against the AL Central this season and 7-5 against the Twins…the Indians are now 6-8 in the month of August…this series win was their first since taking two of three games at Miami August 2-4.
  • ·    Carlos Carrasco allowed four runs on 10 hits while striking out four in 4.1 innings…it was his shortest outing since going 4.0 innings on June 8 at Detroit…he is still looking for his first win of the season and first win since June 29, 2011 at Arizona…in three road starts this season he is 0-1, 10.29 ERA (14.0 IP, 16 ER).
  • ·    Carlos Santana (1-for-4) hit his 14th home run of the season with a  go-ahead solo shot to lead off the 10th inning off Perkins…it was his second homer in his last four games and first on the road since April 21 at Houston, previous nine at Progressive Field…it was his second home run off Perkins this season and third in his career, tied for most home runs off any opposing pitcher with Rick Porcello and Justin Verlander…it was his third career extra-inning homer, the last coming July 31, 2013 vs. Chicago-AL off Dylan Axlerod…each of his last three home runs have tied the game or given the Indians the lead.
  • ·    Jason Giambi (2-for-3) hit his eighth home run of the season with a three-run shot in the eighth off Fien to tie the game 7-7…34th career game-tying home run and second this season…it was his first homer since July 29 vs. Chicago-AL…the three RBI are the most since he also had three RBI on June 1 vs. Tampa Bay…it was his fourth three-plus RBI game this season.
  • ·    Jason Kipnis (3-for-5) has a hit in 10 of his 12 games against the Twins this season, batting .447 (21-for-47) with four doubles, three triples and three home runs with 18 RBI in those 12 games…over his six games at Target Field this season is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with two home runs and six RBI.
  • ·    Michael Brantley (2-for-5) drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the top of the 12th inning…has a hit in nine of his last 10 games, since August 4…over the 10 games he is hitting .325 (13-for-40) with three doubles and five RBI.
  • ·    Mike Aviles (2-for-6) drove in two runs with a single in the fourth inning….he has four RBI in his last three games…he is hitting .276 (16-for-58) with 10 doubles and 28 RBI in 18 post-ASG games.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins lost to the Indians 9-8 in 12 innings in today’s series rubber match…the loss puts them at 6-7 in extra-innings this season…Minnesota is now 23-30 against AL Central opponents…the Twins are 4-3 in their last seven games and 4-2 in their last six games at Target Field…with the loss the Twins are now 5-7 against the Indians this season.
  • ·    Kyle Gibson allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three in 5.1 innings…it was his second straight start to allow three runs…he lowered his ERA at Target Field from 8.79 to 7.78 (19.2 IP, 17 ER) in the start…he was issued the no decision after the bullpen allowed four runs in the seventh…he is winless in his last five starts.
  • ·    Joe Mauer (5-for-7) tied his career-high with five hits today, done four other times with the last being July 26, 2010 at Kansas City…he hit his 10th home run of the season with a solo shot in the 10th inning off Perez…it was his first career extra-inning home run and eighth career game-tying home run…collected his 15th three-plus hit game of the season today and tied his season-high with his third four-hit game of the season (also April 15 and April 16)…he came into today tied second in the majors with 14 three-plus hit games, behind only Victor Martinez (15)…today marked just his second multi-hit game in his last 12 starts…his four RBI are his season-high and the most since also driving in four runs on September 23, 2012 at Detroit…he drove in two runs in the sixth inning with a bases loaded single…he is hitting .500 (4-for-8) with eight RBI with bases loaded this season.
  • ·    Justin Morneau (2-for-6) doubled in the first inning, his 29th of the season and 286th of his career…he needs three more doubles to tie Goose Goslin (289) for ninth on the franchise list (since 1901) and 20 to tie Rod Carew (305) for fourth on the Twins all-time list (since 1961)…collected his 37th multi-hit game of the season, second most among all Twins behind Mauer (38).
  • ·    Oswaldo Arcia (1-for-6) has at least one hit in 11 of his 13 games since being recalled August 2, including an eight-game hit-streak, which ties his season/career-high…in those 13 games he is hitting .283 (15-for-53) with four home runs, four doubles, a triple and six RBI…he drove in his 31st run of the season with an RBI double in the first…his 30 RBI coming into today were third most among AL rookies.
  • ·    Jared Burton tossed a perfect 1.0 inning in the seventh…opponents are 0-for-last-21 against Burton since July 27…he also extended his current scoreless inning streak to 16.1 with the perfect inning…coming into today it was the fifth longest streak in the AL.
  • ·    Clete Thomas (3-for-5) collected his second game with at least three hits today, the other being a four-hit outing June 12 vs. Philadelphia.
