ROYALS NOTES:

  • ·    The Royals beat the Twins tonight 6-1 for their third straight win…the Royals have taken seven of the last eight games against Minnesota and six of the eight at Target Field this season…the Royals are 8-3 in their last 11 games at Target Field (since September 11, 2012)… the Royals are now 50-11 when scoring more than three runs in a game and 38-17 when having more than 10 hits…the Royals scored five runs in the eighth inning, the 10th time scoring at least five runs in an inning this season.
  • ·    James Shields allowed one run on four hits and four walks while striking out seven in 7.1 innings…it was his fourth straight outing of at least 7.0 innings and his fourth straight quality start…he has earned the win in three of his last four starts and in five of his last six starts (5-1, one no decision)…he has struckout 15 batters over his last 14.0 innings…he has allowed just 16 hits in his last 21.0 innings.
  • ·    Alex Gordon (2-for-5) drove in three runs with double in the eighth inning tonight…the three RBI are the most since he drove in four on July 2 vs. Cleveland…he has an RBI in four of his last five games and a hit in 11 of his last 13 games.
  • ·    Billy Butler (2-for-5) is hitting .352 (50-for-142) in 39 games since the All-Star break…he hit his 14th home run of the season with a solo shot in the ninth inning, his second straight game with a homer…it was the second time this season having back-to-back home run games, also July 8-9…coming into today his average was the fourth best mark in the AL since the break…in 17 games against the Twins this season he is hitting .406 (26-for-64), including having four multi-hit games in his last five against Minnesota.
  • ·    Emilio Bonifacio (2-for-4) has a hit in four straight games…he is hitting .318 (14-for-44) with four doubles in 13 games since being traded to Kansas City…tonight marked his first career game recording a plate appearance against the Twins (was a defensive sub July 7, 2013 as a Blue Jay).
  • ·    Salvador Perez (2-for-5) collected his third multi-hit game in his last four games…over those four games he is hitting .412 (7-for-17) with nine RBI…in 14 games against the Twins this season he is hitting .375 (21-for-56).
  • ·    Chris Getz (1-for-5) drove in the first run of the game for the Royals…it was his first RBI since August 17 at Detroit, a span of five games…it snapped a three-game hitless streak as well, going 0-for-10 over those three games.
  • ·    Jarrod Dyson (1-for-4) drove in his 13th run of the season with a single in the eighth inning…it was his first RBI since August 12 vs. Miami, a span of 11 games without an RBI (eight starts).

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins lost to the Royals 6-1 tonight, their third straight loss…the loss is their fifth straight at Target Field after finishing the last home stand with three losses to Chicago-AL and one to New York-NL…Minnesota has lost seven of their last eight games at Target Field.
  • ·    Kevin Correia tossed 7.0 scoreless innings allowing six hits and two walks while striking out seven…he has now reached 7.0 innings in three of his last four starts…he tossed 118 pitches tonight, setting a career-high (previous high: 114, twice, last September 8, 2009 at San Francisco) and most by any Twins pitcher since Carl Pavano also threw 118 pitches on September 2, 2011 at Los Angeles-AL…it was his third scoreless outing of the season, also August 11 at Chicago-AL (7.0 IP) and April 28 vs. Texas (8.0 IP)…Correia has now tossed 154.1 innings this season, the third most innings in a season in his career (198.0 in 2009, 171.0 in 2012)…the seven strikeouts tonight tied his season high, done two times previously with the last being August 11 at Chicago-AL.
  • ·    Josh Willingham (1-for-4) extended his current hit-streak to four games with a single…he has a hit in eight of his last 11 games since August 15…over those 11 games he is hitting .220 (9-for-41) with five doubles and five RBI.
  • ·    Brian Dozier (1-for-4) drove in his 29th run of the season with a double to left field in the eighth inning, breaking up the shutout…he is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBI in his last three games against the Royals.
