A slate of proposed security improvements at the McLeod County Courthouse in Glencoe has now evolved into a $7-million project.
The McLeod County Chronicle reports the work includes constructing a new, secure lobby at the facility that would be shared by both the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office and the county jail.
With the most recent price estimates, the McLeod County Board is now asking to have money released from the Annamarie Tudhope Estate to help pay for the expenses. Tudhope was the former owner and publisher of the Glencoe Enterprise newspaper, and left around $5-million to the county to be used towards constructing a new jail.
The courthouse improvement project is scheduled to be reviewed further by the McLeod County Board on September 17th.
