It’s back to school for most of the state’s students tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius tells MNN that as a parent, you should be engaged by knowing your child’s schedule, especially at the beginning of the school year so they’re taking the courses that are going to help them achieve their best.
Cassellius says it’s also important at the beginning of the year for parents to connect with their kids’ teachers, and to know where and when teachers can be contacted.
She also says it’s important to monitor your child’s “screen time”, whether it’s video games, movies, youtube, facebook, or texting, and limit their “media” time.
Cassellius does say a good book or extra curricular activities like sports and school clubs are preferable alternatives to “screen time.”
