BLUE JAYS NOTES:

  • ·    The Blue Jays beat the Twins today for their sixth win in their last eight games and eighth win in their last 11 games…the Jays are 3-1 against the Twins this season after winning two of three in Toronto July 5-7…Toronto is now 9-3 all-time at Target Field…the Blue Jays are now 21-25 in series openers and 14-15 against the AL Central this season…Jays are 5-18 against the Twins since July 7, 2010 and 10-33 since July 23, 2007.
  • ·    R.A. Dickey allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four in 6.1 innings tonight…he reached 30 starts for the third straight season…he now has 197.0 innings pitched this season, third most of his career…he earned his 12th win tonight, the second most wins in his career behind 20 wins in 2012…the former Twin is now 2-2, 6.11 ERA (35.1 IP, 24 ER) in nine career appearances, five starts, against Minnesota…in two starts this season vs. Minnesota he is 1-1, 6.08 ERA (13.1 IP, 9 ER).
  • ·    Moises Sierra (1-for-4) drove in two runs with a double tonight…he has four hits and four RBI in 16 at-bats over four games on this current road trip…coming into today he was hitting just .174 on the road this season.
  • ·    Brett Lawrie (1-for-4) has a hit in three straight games after going hitless in four straight games previously (14 AB)…he has four RBI in his last three games…he is hitting .326 (30-for-92) with four doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI in 24 games since the All-Star break.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins lost to the Blue Jays tonight for their eighth straight loss at Target Field…despite the loss the Twins are still 3-2 in their last five games overall…Minnesota is 1-10 in their last 11 home games…the Twins are now 9-19 against the AL East this season, 3-2 in September and 27-54 when allowing the opponent to score first in a game…tonight was the 200th loss for the Twins all-time against Toronto (154-200).
  • ·    Mike Pelfrey allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out seven in 6.0 innings tonight…the six runs allowed were the most runs allowed since also giving up six runs on April 9 at Kansas City, his second start of the season…the seven strikeouts tied his season-high, done three other times with the last coming in his last start August 31 at Texas…his 14 strikeouts over his last two starts are more than his four previous starts combined…the loss is the first since August 10 at Chicago-AL, a span of four starts.
  • ·    Josmil Pinto (2-for-4) hit his first career major league home run with a solo shot in the ninth inning off Janssen…he is the fifth Twins rookie to homer this season…in four major league games he is hitting .643 (9-for-14) with a home run, two RBI and four runs scored.
  • ·    Trevor Plouffe (2-for-4) has at least one hit in 15 of his last 18 games, since August 18…over the 18 games he is hitting .319 (22-for-69) with eight doubles, two home runs and five RBI…tonight marked his 19th multi-hit game of the season.
  • ·    Alex Presley (1-for-5) collected a hit in his third straight game…he has a hit in four of his five games since being acquired by the Twins on August 31…in those five games he is hitting .364 (8-for-22) with two doubles, a home run and five RBI.
  • ·    Chris Colabello (2-for-4) extended his current hit-streak to five games, tying his career-high (also August 9-14) tonight…over the five games he is hitting .400 (8-for-20) with a double, three home runs and eight RBI…he hit his seventh home run of the season with a two-run shot in the seventh inning off Dickey, his third home run in his last five games…tonight marked his eight multi-hit game of the season.
  • ·    Oswaldo Arcia (2-for-3) snapped his personal 0-for-last-15 with a single in the second inning…he followed it up with a double in the seventh, his 16th double of the season and 28th extra-base hit of the season…coming into today his 27 extra-base hits were second most among AL rookies behind Nick Franklin’s 28.
  • ·    Twins rookies accounted for six of the Twins 10 hits and four of the five RBI…Twins rookies are hitting .266 (201-for-755) with 30 home runs and 99 RBI this season.
