Two people died after a car rear-ended a farm implement on Highway 71 in Renville County Sunday night.
76-year-old Thomas Kopel and 74-year-old Carla Kopel, both of Olivia died as a result of injuries they received.
The State Patrol says Thomas Kopel was driving northbound on Highway 71 and hit a farm implement that was stopped, unoccupied, on the shoulder of the highway with its hazard lights on. The Patrol says the implement was about two feet into the lane of traffic.
There were two other passengers in the Kopel vehicle, both from Cottage Grove. One was taken to Olivia Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other was apparently not injured.
The crash happened at about 8:45pm on Highway 71 at 780th Avenue.
