ATHLETICS NOTES:

  • ·   The A’s defeated the Twins today for their 12th road series win of the season (12-9-2)…the A’s are 6-4 in their last 10 road games…the A’s are 7-2 in their last nine games against Minnesota and 5-1 in their last five at Target Field…the A’s will play 12 of their final 16 games against the AL West, with the only four games outside the West coming against the Twins at O.co Coliseum September 19-22.
  • ·   A.J. Griffin allowed one run, a solo home run, on two hits and one walk while striking out eight in 7.0 innings today…it was his 11th start to go at least 7.0 innings and his eighth of at least 7.0 innings to not allow more than one run…today marked his fifth start with at least eight strikeouts…it was his second start to allow fewer than three hits, the other being his complete game shutout June 26 vs. Cincinnati…he has won four straight  starts, since August 26 at Detroit…in those four starts he has an ERA of 3.60 (25.0 IP, 10 ER) and has been supported with 24 runs (8.64 run support average)…he has not walked more than one batter in four straight starts and in 19 total starts this season.
  • ·   Josh Reddick (1-for-2) hit his 12th home run of the season with a two run shot in the eighth inning…it was his first homer since having two on August 10 in Toronto…each of his hits since coming off the disabled list are for extra-bases (2B, HR).
  • ·   Josh Donaldson (1-for-3) extended his current hit-streak to eight games with a single in the fifth inning…over the eight games he is hitting .438 (14-for-32) with five doubles, two home runs and seven RBI…in eight career games against the Twins he is hitting .xxx (xx8-for-22) with three doubles and three RBI.
  • ·   Yoenis Cespedes (2-for-5) has driven in a run in six straight games and had at least one hit in seven straight games…he has seven multi-hit games in his last 11 games, batting .419 (18-for-43) with two homers and 10 RBI in 11 games since September 1.
  • ·   Daric Barton (1-for-4) has a hit in four straight games, batting .539 (7-for-13) with three RBI in those four games…it’s his longest streak since having a hit in four straight May 15-18, 2012.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·   The Twins lost to the A’s today, dropping the series, and are now 19-10 against the AL West…despite the loss they have won nine of their last 13 against the division and six of eight home games…the Twins are now 5-6 in September and 30-41 at Target Field this season with 10 games remaining…Minnesota is now 18-24-4 in series play in 2013.
  • ·   Scott Diamond allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out one in 4.2 innings…it was his first major leaguestart since August 1 vs. Kansas City…the 4.2 innings are the fewest since also going 4.2 in his start July 21 vs. Cleveland…he has allowed six runs or more in four of his last six starts.
  • ·   Oswaldo Arcia (2-for-4) hit his 12th home run of the season with a solo shot in the seventh inning off Griffin…it was his second home run in his last three games…he came into today second among AL rookies with 29 extra-base hits and tied for third with 11 home runs, just one home run behind Franklin and Gillaspie who are tied for the lead…12 home runs are the most for Twins rookie since Bobby Kielty and Dustin Mohr each had 12 in 2002…he has four multi-hit games in his last seven games.
  • ·   Josmil Pinto (1-for-4) has a hit in seven of his eight starts this season…he is batting .467 (14-for-30) in nine games this season.
  • ·   Alex Presley (1-for-4) is hitting .340 (16-for-47) as a Twin with six multi-hit games…he has at least one hit in nine of his 11 games as a Twin.
