RAYS NOTES:

  • ·    The Rays are now 6-0 against the Twins this season and have won 11 straight games against the club which is the second-longest winning streak against an opponent in Rays history only behind a 12 game winning streak vs. Baltimore, April 30, 2008 to September 24, 2008…the Rays have now won three straight games for the first time since August 18-20…the Rays are now tied with the Rangers for the top wild card spot in the AL and remain 1.5 games ahead of Cleveland, the next closest opponent.…the shutout was the 15th of the season for the Rays, tying their club record set last season…only the Indians (16) have more this year in the AL…the Rays have the most shutouts over the last two seasons with 30…it  marked the 35th time the Rays held their opponent to one run or less, one shy of the Tigers for most such games in the majors this year.
  • ·    DELAY: Tonight’s game was delayed by rain for two hours and four minutes (7:34 to 9:38 pm)…it was the sixth weather-affected game (3 delays, 3 postponements) of the season at Target Field and first since June 28 vs. Kansas City (26 minutes).
  • ·    Matt Moore allowed just one hit while walking three and striking out five in 3.0 shutout innings before the rain delay…he has not lost a game in his last 10 starts and has allowed just two runs and struckout 14 in his last three starts (14.2 IP)…he is now 8-1, 2.76 ERA (75.0 IP, 23 ER) in 14 road starts this season and 1-0, 3.24 ERA (16.2 IP, 6 ER) in three career starts against the Twins.
  • ·    Desmond Jennings (2-for-4) has a hit in five of his last six games…he had two hits tonight and is just two hits from tying his single-season career-high (124 done in 2012)…his two RBI tonight gives him 47 on the season, tying his career-high (also 2012).
  • ·    Evan Longoria (2-for-5) has three multi-hit games in his last four games…five of his last six hits are for extra-bases (4 doubles, 1 triple)…he is hitting .270 (78-for-289) on the road compared to .264 (69-for-261) at Tropicana Field.
  • ·    Wil Myers (1-for-5) hit his 16th double of the season tonight…he has a hit in seven of his last eight games…during that time he is hitting .321 (9-for-28)…the Rays are 36-16 when he records a hit in a game (5-21 when he does not).
  • ·    Sean Rodriguez (1-for-2) is a lifetime .310 (27-for-87) hitter with 15 RBI in 29 games against the Twins.
  • ·    Yunel Escobar (2-for-3) has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time since August 7-9 and the fourth time this season…he has 27 multi-hit games this season.
  • ·    James Loney (0-for-5) snapped his eight-game hit-streak…he hit .323 (10-for-31) with three doubles, a homer and six RBI during the streak.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins lost to the Rays tonight losing their fourth straight game…the Twins have lost 11 straight games to Tampa Bay dating back to April 21, 2012 which is their longest losing streak vs. one opponent since losing 13 straight to the Yankees, May 10, 2002-April 21, 2003…the Twins are now 60-62 all-time against the Rays and 34-29 at home (3-12 at Target Field)…Minnesota is 9-24 this season against the AL East.
  • ·    Andrew Albers allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one in 4.0 innings prior to the rain delay tonight…it marked his third career start to allow four runs or more…he has walked just four batters in his eight career starts (49.2 IP)…despite having an ERA of 2.91 (34.0 IP, 11 ER) at Target Field he has a record of 1-3 after being issued the loss tonight.
  • ·    Shutout: The Twins have not scored a run since the eighth inning on Thursday vs. Oakland…it is the longest scoreless streak by the Twins since going 25 innings without scoring April 30 (9th inning) to May 4 (6th inning), 2012…the Twins were shutout in back-to-back games for the first time since May 1-2, 2012 at Los Angeles-AL…it is the first time the Rays have shutout the Twins in back-to-back games…entering this series they had only shutout the Twins three times.
  • ·    Chris Colabello (1-for-4) snapped a personal 0-for-last-15 with a single in the second inning tonight.
  • ·    Pedro Florimon (1-for-3) has a hit in 13 of his last 19 games, batting .290 (18-for-62) in those 19 games.
