RAYS NOTES:

  • ·   The Rays snapped their three game winning streak with the loss and are now 6-1 against the Twins this season…the loss snapped their 11 game winning streak against the club, which was tied for the second-longest winning streak against an opponent in Rays history (behind a 12 game winning streak vs. Baltimore, April 30, 2008 to September 24, 2008)… the Rays set a club record for consecutive scoreless innings pitch at 27 with a scoreless first six innings today…the Rays previous high was 26 done June 30 thru July 3, 2013.
  • ·   David Price allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings today…he left with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh and two runs came around to score…it was his seventh start in a row to allow at least two runs…the no decision extends his current winless streak to four starts (0-3, one no decision).
  • ·   Wil Myers (2-for-2) hit his 12th home run of the season to put the Rays up 2-0 in the fourth inning…he has a hit in eight of his last nine games…during that time he is hitting .367 (11-for-30)…over his last 15 games since August 31 he is hitting .333 (18-for-54)…the Rays are 36-17 when he records a hit in a game (5-21 when he does not)…it was his first homer since hitting two on September 4 at Los Angeles-AL and just his third home run since August 15 (28 games)…he had six homers in his previous 20 games before August 15…eight of his 12 homers this season have come on the road where he is hitting .318 (50-for-157) compared to .264 (32-for-121) at Tropicana Field.
  • ·   Sean Rodriguez (1-for-3) hit his fourth home run of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning…all four of his homers this season are against left-handed pitching while 11 of his 32 career homers are against lefties.
  • ·   Ben Zobrist (2-for-5) snapped a personal 0-for-last-16 with a single in the fourth inning…he also collected his third multi-hit game in his last three games…it was his 44th multi-hit game of the season.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·   The Twins defeated the Rays today, snapping their four-game losing…it also snapped the Twins 11 game losing streak to Tampa Bay dating back to April 21, 2012 which was their longest losing streak vs. one opponent since losing 13 straight to the Yankees, May 10, 2002-April 21, 2003…the Twins are now 61-62 all-time against the Rays and 35-29 at home (4-12 at Target Field)…Minnesota is 10-24 this season against the AL East…the Twins scored two runs in the seventh inning today, their first runs since the eighth inning on Thursday vs. Oakland, a span of 25 scoreless innings…it was the longest scoreless streak by the Twins since going 29 innings without scoring September 6-10, 1978 (1st inning 9/6 vs. CWS-2nd inning 9/10 vs. MIL)…the Twins finished their 10-game homestand with a record of 3-7.
  • ·   Pedro Hernandez allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two in 5.0 innings…it is his seventh straight start to allow at least three runs…it was also his third start in his last four to go at least 5.0 innings.
  • ·   Josmil Pinto (1-for-3) hit his second career home run with a three-run, go-ahead homer in the eighth inning…he has a hit in eight of his 11 games as a Twin.
  • ·   Chris Parmelee (1-for-4) drove in two runs in the seventh inning with the bases loaded…it was his first hit with the bases loaded this season (0-for-6 coming into today) and he is now a career 2-for-13 (.154) with six RBI with the bases loaded…Parmelee’s hit snapped a 25 inning scoreless streak for Twins, the longest since also going 25 scoreless innings April 30 (9th inning) to May 4 (6th inning), 2012…he was also the batter that snapped that streak.
  • ·   Ryan Doumit (1-for-3) hit his 13th home run of the season with a solo shot in the eighth inning…he now has 98 career home runs…it was his 80th career home run as a left-handed hitter.
  • ·   Trevor Plouffe (3-for-3) has a hit in seven of his last 13 games and 21 of his last 27 games…over the 27 games he is hitting .314 (33-for-105)…it was his fifth game with at least three hits and his first since September 2 at Houston.
  • ·   Eduardo Escobar (2-for-3) collected his first multi-hit game since being recalled September 1…it was his ninth multi-hit game in his 58 games played this season…he now has three doubles, two triples and three home runs this season.
  • ·   Anthony Swarzak tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief today…he leads the MLB in relief innings this season…his 92.2 innings are the most by a Twins reliever since Juan Berenguer threw 100.1 innings in 1990.
