TIGERS NOTES:

  • ·   The Tigers defeated the Twins tonight to drop their magic number to clinch the AL Central to one…the Tigers are 12-10 in 22 games in September…the Tigers have gone 4-4 at Target Field this season and are 10-8 against Minnesota overall…the Tigers (Martinez and Infante) hit back-to-back home runs for the fifth time this season with two solo shots in the fourth inning…it was the first back-to-back combo since July 14 vs. Texas (Martinez and Peralta).
  • ·   Doug Fister allowed two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven in 6.1 innings…he has 17 strikeouts over his last two starts (14.0 IP)…he has three quality starts in his last six starts and 22 of his 32 starts this season…in three starts against the Twins this season he is 2-1, 3.00 ERA (21.0 IP, 7 ER) with four walks and 21 strikeouts.
  • ·   Torii Hunter (3-for-5) collected his 55th multi-hit game of the season…coming into tonight he was seventh in the AL in multi-hit games…tonight marked his 18th game this season with at least three hits and his second straight three-hit game…he has 13 hits in his last four starts…over his last six games against the Twins he is hitting .393 (11-for-28) with six extra-base hits and six RBI.
  • ·   Victor Martinez (1-for-3) extended his current hit-streak to 11 games with solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1…it was his 14th home run of the season and his second in his last five games…over the 11 games he is hitting .400 (16-for-40)…the home run tied his career-high for hits in a season, also 181 in 2006 with Cleveland…he has five doubles, seven RBI and seven extra-base hits in his last six games.
  • ·   Omar Infante (2-for-4) extended his current hit-streak to eight games with a solo home run in the fourth inning…it was part of the Tigers fifth back-to-back combo this season…it was also his 10th home run of the season and first since hitting two on August 31…it marks the third time in his career with double-digit home runs.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·   The Twins lost to the Tigers tonight, falling to 8-10 against Detroit this season, including 4-4 at Target Field…the Twins are now 29-42 against the AL Central…Minnesota is now 36-27 when scoring first in a game…Minnesota will look for their 400th all-time win against Detroit in the rubber match tomorrow night (399-359-1 all-time vs. Detroit)…the Twins struckout 14 times tonight and have now struckout 1,369 times this season, passing the 2012 Astros (1,365) for seventh in MLB history.
  • ·   Scott Diamond allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three in 6.1 innings…he gave up three homers in the fourth inning, including back-to-back solo homers by Martinez and Infante…he is the first Twin since Brian Duensing to allow three homers in an inning July 15, 2012 vs. Oakland (2nd inning)…the three strikeouts are the most since he struckout five on July 1 vs. New York-AL…he had three strikeouts in his previous five starts combined.
  • ·   Ryan Doumit (2-for-3) slugged his 14th home run of the season with a solo shot in the seventh inning…it was his first home run since September 15 vs. Tampa Bay…it was his 99th career home run and his 81st career home run as a left-handed hitter…tonight marked his 27th multi-hit game of the season.
  • ·   Trevor Plouffe (2-for-4) collected his 25th multi-hit game of the season tonight…he was 1-for-last-17 streak over his previous five games…he is hitting .265 (60-for-226) compared to .233 (54-for-232) on the road this season.
  • ·   Chris Parmelee (3-for-4) tied his season-high for hits in a game with three…he has two three-hit games in his last six games, since September 19 at Oakland.
