The fire that destroyed a building in Lester Prairie Monday afternoon has been determined to be accidental.
Deputy State Fire Marshal Ron Rahman and Consulting Investigator Jeffrey Washinger made that determination based on their investigation however, because the building collapsed, the exact cause is undetermined. It was determined that the fire originated between joists in the building
The lower floor of the building, at 521 Central Avenue, had been a restaurant with apartments on the top floor. The building was unoccupied.
McLeodCountyauthorities say the fire was reported at 1:40 Monday afternoon.
An adjacent apartment building at518 Central Avenuehas an abutting wall and those residents are not being allowed back in until it’s determined how much structural damage occurred.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents from that apartment complex.
