INDIANS NOTES:

  • ·    The Indians defeated the Twins 12-6 tonight for their 90th victory of the season…the 90 wins are their most since going 96-66 in 2007… the Indians have now won eight games in a row, tying their longest winning streak of the season, July 24-August 1…Cleveland is now 42-32 against the AL Central this season, 35-20 against left-handed starters and 39-40 on the road…the Indians have won four straight against the Twins and improve to 11-6 against Minnesota in 2013, including 5-3 at Target Field….with the victory and Tampa Bay’s loss the Indians are now tied for the top Wild Card Spot in the American League with a 90-70 record.
  • ·    The Indians recorded four extra base hits in an inning for the fourth time tonight hitting four doubles in the first inning off Pedro Hernandez…the aforementioned all occurred on the road with the Indians winning all four games, last coming in the fifth inning, June 28 at Chicago-AL.
  • ·    Corey Kluber allowed six runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings pitched tonight…three of his six runs were given up by Rich Hill…he is 4-0, 4.33 ERA (25.1 IP, 15 ER) with seven walks and 20 strikeouts in five starts in September…the six runs allowed are his most since allowing eight May 10 at Detroit.
  • ·    Jason Kipnis (3-for-5) recorded his 11th three-hit game tonight with a single, double and triple…has hit safely in his fifth straight game hitting .450 (9-for-20) with three doubles, one triple and three RBI…hit his fourth triple and 56th extra base hit of the season in the first inning…is now hitting .418 (28-for-67) with 14 extra-base hits in 17 games against the Twins this season.
  • ·    Michael Brantley (1-for-5) extended his current hit-streak to 11 games tonight…over the 11 games he is hitting .467 (21-for-45) with 10 RBI and four extra-base hits.
  • ·    Carlos Santana (2-for-3) reached base four times tonight with two doubles and two walks, one intentional…has hit safely in five straight games and 18 of the 25 games played in September…he is hitting .320 (24-for-75) with six doubles, two home runs and 16 walks in 21 games since September 6…when batting fourth in the lineup this season he is hitting .278 (44-for-158) with 25 runs scored, nine doubles, eight home runs, 26 RBI in 46 games.
  • ·    Asdrubal Cabrera (3-for-5) hit two doubles tonight for his 34th and 35th…Cabrera now has 51 extra base hits this season.

 

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins lost to the Indians tonight, falling to 6-11 against Cleveland this season, including 3-5 at Target Field…the Twins are now 29-45 against the AL Central…the Twins struckout 10 times tonight and have now struckout 1,401 times this season, passing the 2001 Brewers (1,399) for sole possession of third on MLB’s single-season team strikeout list…the Twins have double-digit strikeouts in 64 games this season…the Twins have lost four straight, eight of their last nine and 10 of their last 12 games.
  • ·    Pedro Hernandez allowed six runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout in a career-low 1.2 innings pitched…it was his final start of the season, finishing with a record of 3-3, 6.83 ERA (56.2 IP, 43 ER) with 10 home runs, 23 walks and 29 strikeouts.
  • ·    Pedro Florimon (1-for-4) hit his ninth home run of the season tonight in the fifth inning off Corey Kluber…all nine home runs have come from the left side of the plate…his nine home runs this season are the most by a Twins everyday shortstop since Cristian Guzman in 2002 (9).
  • ·    Ryan Doumit (2-for-5) collected his 29th multi-hit game of the season tonight…this season he is hitting .300 (36-for-120) as an outfielder compared to .252 (41-for-163) as a catcher and .224 (41-for-183) as designated hitter.
  • ·    Trevor Plouffe (3-for-3) recorded his fifth three-hit game of the season tonight… he has a hit in 26 of his last 37 games, hitting .315 (45-for-143) in those 37…he is hitting .308 (20-for-65) with four doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in 17 games against the Indians this season.
  • ·    Alex Presley (2-for-5) has at least one hit in 18 of his 26 games as a member of the Twins.
  • ·    Liam Hendriks pitched 4.2 innings of relief tonight striking out eight Indian hitters…the eight strikeouts are the most by a Twins pitcher this season and most since Samuel Deduno struck out nine August 29, 2012 against Seattle…99 pitches are the seventh most in club history for a single relief appearance, most since Hendriks himself did it September 21 at Oakland.
  • ·    Josmil Pinto (1-for-1) left the game in the top of the fifth inning with a bruised right hand after getting hit by a Corey Kluber pitch in the fourth inning…received precautionary x-rays which came back negative…he is listed day-to-day.
