Lynx win WNBA Title, Fans invited to celebrate 11 Oct 13

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – With their 86-77 win tonight over the Atlanta Dream in Game 3 of the 2013 WNBA Finals presented by Boost Mobile, the Minnesota Lynx captured the franchise’s second championship in the last three seasons. The Lynx finished the postseason with a perfect 7-0 record, becoming just the second team in WNBA history to go 7-0 in postseason play (Seattle, 2010).

Lynx led the way with balanced team effort featuring all five starters scoring 10+ points. After the game, Maya Moore was named the 2013 WNBA Finals MVP, averaging 20.0 points per game during the three-game series.

Minnesota became just the fourth team in WNBA history to reach the WNBA Finals in three consecutive seasons (Houston, 1997-2000; Los Angeles, 2001-03; Detroit, 2006-08). Minnesota finished the postseason 4-0 at home, improving to a WNBA-record 14-2 (.875) at Target Center in franchise postseason history, which stands as the best home winning percentage in WNBA postseason history.

After wrapping up the regular season with the league’s best record for the third consecutive campaign, the Lynx (26-8) became just the third team in league history to string together three consecutive 25+ win seasons (Houston, 1998-00; Los Angeles, 2000-02). Minnesota has tallied 80 wins since the beginning of the 2011 season, equaling the second-highest three-year win total in league history (Los Angeles won 81 in 2000-02; Houston won 80 in 1998-2000).

Minnesota Lynx players and coaching staff will be arriving back in Minneapolis after sweeping the Atlanta Dream in the 2013 WNBA Championship Finals.  Fans are invited out to welcome the team back home today (Friday, Oct 11)

INFO:     The Minnesota Lynx players and coaching staff will be arriving back home with the 2013 WNBA Championship trophy Friday evening. Fans and media members are invited to welcome the team home in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 (Humphrey), the is team flying in on AirTran Flight #109 and as is scheduled to land at 5:37 p.m.
Also to celebrate the championship, the Lynx will hold a parade down Nicollet Mall on Monday, October 14 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the corner of 12th Street and Nicollet Avenue before turning down 7th Street toward Target Center. Following the procession, the team will hold a pep rally at Target Center open to the public beginning at12:15 p.m. Doors to the Target Center will open to the public at 11:30 a.m.
