Sibley East Elementary School Principal Mari Lu Martens is representing Minnesota in Washington DC this week as the state’s “National Distinguished Principal.”
The National Association of Elementary School Principals recognition honors elementary and middle school principals who set the pace, character, and quality of education children receive during their early school years. Martens is a Gaylord native who serves as the head of the Arlington and Gaylord campuses of Sibley East.
District staff members describe her as “a natural leader” and “a visionary administrator.”
She will be honored during the association’s annual banquet on Friday at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington DC.
US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be giving congratulatory remarks.
Martens will also be honored during a banquet in Bloomington next year.
