A school bus caught fire and burned yesterday morning (Thursday) in Meeker County’s Forest Township.

KLFD reports the driver noticed an odor and then smoke coming from a control panel in the drivers compartment.  The driver immediately evacuated the children, tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher, and called for assistance.  No one was injured.

When the Litchfield Fire Department arrived on scene, the front end of the bus was fully engulfed in flames.  The bus was a total loss, with damage estimated at $60,000.

The students, about 43, were loaded on a second bus and taken to their destination.

The incident happened just before 8am.
