A corn field fire Friday afternoon in rural Dassel caused problems for a Dassel man that was just trying to burn a ditch.
Just before 2:30 Friday afternoon, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office and Dassel Fire and Rescue responded to 16135 720th Avenue Dassel for a corn field fire.
Authorities say 62-year-old Daniel Mattson was burning a ditch when the fire jumped across to his neighbor’s field and burned approximately 5 acres. The wind was flaming the fire towards building structures at the time.
The Dassel Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire. Other than the five acres that were burned, there was no other damage.
The corn field had been previously harvested, so there was no loss of crop.
