Fire destroyed a barn near Dassel Sunday afternoon.
At 12:15 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched the Dassel Fire Department to a barn fire at 21491 670th Avenue, in Ellsworth Township.
Upon arrival of the deputy the barn was fully engulfed in flames.
The structure, a 30′ by 60′ barn, along with all of its contents, was completely destroyed by the fire. The contents included two Arctic Cat snowmobiles, a 2002 Honda Shadow motorcycle, numerous hand tools, furniture, a go-cart, a Whirlpool tub, several lawn tractors, and numerous personal items such as photographs and other documents.
The property owner, 42-year-old Laura Mattson, reported that her 18-year-old son, Timothy Mattson, had come home and noticed smoke coming from the building. He went inside and observed flames in the northwest corner of the building and called 911.
The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent and remains under investigation.
