Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed free agent right-handed pitcherRicky Nolasco to a four-year contract with a club option that could vest in 2018. Nolasco will earn a guaranteed $12 million salary in each year of the contract (2014-2017).
Nolasco, 30, made a combined 34 appearances (33 starts) for the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers last season going 13-11 with a 3.70 ERA (199.1 IP, 82 ER). He recorded 165 strikeouts while walking just 46 batters. He was traded to the DodgersJuly 6 and went 8-3 with a 3.52 ERA during his final 16 regular season appearances (15 starts) and made one start vs. the St. Louis Cardinals in the League Championship Series.
The California native was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft out of Rialto (Calif.) High School before being traded to the Marlins in 2005. He has a career record of 89-75 with a 4.37 ERA (1312.2 IP, 638 ER), 1076 strikeouts and 306 walks in 229 appearances (212 starts); including six straight seasons with at least 10 wins. From 2008-13, he ranked tied for fourth in the National League in wins (77), fifth in starts (186) and sixth in innings pitched (1151.1).
