The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has completed its investigation into whether Hutchinson Police Sgt. Eric Kilian’s actions were appropriate after an incident in October in which he shot an individual in the abdomen.
The BCA presented their findings to the McLeod County Attorney’s Office for review of possible charges against Sgt. Kilian. After his review, County Attorney Mike Junge declined to press charges against Sgt. Kilian.
The shooting took place on October 25th at 8:30 a.m. when officers responded to 455 High Street Northeast in Hutchinson following a 9-1-1 call of a suspicious person inside the multi-unit residence.
The victim of the shooting, whose identity has still not been released, was taken to HCMC for treatment.
Sgt. Kilian returned to work following a standard administrative leave.
The BCA will now forward their findings to the Hutchinson Police Department. The department will conduct their own investigation into Sgt. Kilian’s actions and what charges, if any, will be requested against the wounded man.
