New Ulm Teen Gets Music Award 20 Jan 14

A New Ulm High School Senior has been named the Mandolin Player of the Year at the 2014 Midwest Bluegrass Awards.

The prestigious honor for 17-year-old Ian Kimmel of New Ulm comes from the Society for the Preservation of the Bluegrass Music of America.

Kimmel is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who began performing at bluegrass festivals and concerts at age 8 and plans to major in bluegrass music at Eastern Tennessee State University.

His band “Barton’s Hollow” won the ‘Race for the Place’ bluegrass band contest from the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association this past November as well.
