Authorities have identified the man and woman fatally shot after a high-speed police chase that ended in Eden Prairie Friday.
MNN reports 36-year-old Matthew Vincent Serbus and 34-year-old Dawn Marie Pfister died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officers were trying to stop the car occupied by Serbus and Pfister when the car crashed into a wall. The two emerged from the vehicle and that’s when the shots were fired.
So far, it’s not clear what happened at that point, but four officers involved in the shooting — one from the State Patrol, two from Chaska police and one from Carver County– are on standard administrative leave.
Family members of Pfister tell the Star Tribune they are still seeking answers.
Bridget Johnson, Pfister’s stepmother, says Pfister was from Elkhorn,Wis., and has two children, ages 12 and 9.
Serbus had a long criminal record.
At the time of the shooting, there were pending warrants for their arrests.
61-year-old Sandra Bargmann of Glencoe was driving eastbound and was rear-ended by the vehicle at Hwy. 212 and County Road 43. Bargmann says she never saw what hit her. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene with its front hood up.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
