MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Matt Cassel is staying with the Minnesota Vikings. The two sides reached agreement yesterday, one day before the quarterback would have become eligible to negotiate with other teams. That’s according to a person with knowledge of the agreement who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because an announcement had not been made.
The Minnesota Vikings have announced they have re-signed CB/PR Marcus Sherels. Sherels has appeared in 49 career games, making 7 starts. In 2013, Sherels appeared in all 16 games and started a career-high 4 contests. Sherels set the Vikings single-season record with a punt return average of 15.2 yards per return, ranking 2nd in the NFL. On 10/21/13 at the New York Giants, Sherels returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown en route to setting the Vikings single-game record with 119 punt return yards. His 2 career punt return touchdowns are tied for most in Vikings history. The 2013 season saw Sherels play an increased role in the Vikings secondary, earning his 1st-career interception on 12/8/13 against Joe Flacco and the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens. Sherels, a Rochester, Minn. native and a former Golden Gopher, joined the Vikings in 2010 as an undrafted rookie free agent.
