Icy conditions were a major factor in a broadside crash in Carver County Tuesday night that killed one driver and sent another to the hospital.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, authorities responded to the crash at about 9:23 p.m. on County Road 11 and White Pine Way in Carver County.
The Patrol says a car was heading southbound on County Road 11 when the driver lost control, slid on the icy road sideways into the northbound lanes and hit a pick-up truck.
The driver of the pick-up attempted to avoid the car, but the two collided. The State Patrol said both drivers were taken to the hospital. The driver of the car, 18-year-old Mickenzy Segler of New Prague was pronounced dead. The driver of the pick-up truck, 32-year-old Robert MacDonald of Carver, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Road conditions were icy at the time of the crash, which authorities said likely played a factor.
