All Area Basketball Teams named 21 Mar 14

KDUZ/KARP/KGLB Radio is proud to announce our All Area Basketball Teams.  Players were nominated by their coaches and then voted on by a panel of broadcasters.  Here are the honorees:

All Area Boys Basketball-
Keaton Anderson, GSL, G/F, Junior-All Conference, 21.4 points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists, already a 1,000 point scorer, special player

Brody Rodning, Sibley East, G, Senior-All Conference, 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, Good Student and mentor for the younger players, focus of opposing defenses. 

Taylor Larson, ACGC, G, Senior-All Conference, West Central MVP candidate, top 100 player in state, 22.4 points, 36% shooting from 3 point FG, 4.3 Rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 blocks, 1000 point scorere, very athletic, great teammate.

Luke Sandquist, WM, F/C, Senior-3 year letterwinner, 2 time All Conference, 15 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks, 55% FG, 2 year starter, dominate player, UW-River Falls Recruit

Ryan Boll, Waconia, F, Senior-All Conference, 3 year starter, 17 pts, 58% shooting, 7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.3 blocks, All Star Series player, 1,000 point scorer, NCAA D3 Recruit

Kyle Kubesh, BLHS, C, Senior-2x All Conf, Team MVP, best defensive player, 19.8 points, 13.9 rebounds, 133 total blocked shots (new school record), 1,000 point scorer, school record holder for rebounds in a season, dependable, good leader, inside and outside player.

Seth Schuette, GFW, G, Sophomore-All Conference, 20 points, 2 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, loves the ball in his hands, already a three year varsity player, good leadership skills

Jared Streit, EVW, F, Junior-2x All Conf, 2x Co Team MVP, 16.7 pts, 11.7 reb, leading rebounder in CMC, 15 double doubles, good at controlling the paint, 6th in scoring in CMC. 

Nick Machemehl, LP/HT, G, Senior-4x All Conf, 2x Captain, 22.7 pts, Leader on and off the floor, great hustle and knowledge of the game, Schools all time leading scorer with over 1,900 points. 

Jarred Merchant, Kimball, F, Junior-2x All Conf, 1,000 point career scorer, 21.6 pts, 10.4 reb, 2 assists, 1 steal, shoots 62%, teams most consistent player, great leader, very involved with youth teams also. 

Austin Smith, HLWW, G, Senior-All Conf, 14.4 pts, 4.8 reb, 3.8 assists, shoots 53%, returned from ACL injury last year, stepped up in big games, took over in playoffs, Going to college to play basketball

Tyler Sale, HLWW, C, Senior-2x All Conf, 15.0 pts, 7.4 reb, 60% shooter, can be a dominant player, 2nd highest FG % in school history, 3 year player.

Matt Miller, Annandale, F, Senior-17 pts, 7 reb, 4 assists, over 1,550 career points, a great competitor, key cog in the Cardinals two trips to the state tournament, special player, All Conf. 

Andrew Fort, Annandale, F, Senior-14 pts, 8 reb, 2 assists, leads fast breaks, helped team to two section championships, All Conf.

Chase Knickerbocker, Annandale, F, Senior-16 pts, 4 Reb, a lights out shooter at 6’6”, helped team to two section championships, All Conf.

Coach of the Year: Skip Dolan, Annandale:  Led team to WCC West Championship, 2nd straight Section Championship, State Tournament as the #1 Seed.

All Area Girls Basketball-

Mackenzie Uter, HLWW, G, Senior-3 times All Conf, All State HM, Team MVP, 1,000 career points, SCSU recruit, All Star Series player, averages 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, leader of the team

Abby Miller, HLWW, G, Senior-3 times All Conf, All Star Series Player, 1,400 career points, St. Ben’s Recruit, 16.8 points, 2.7 Rebounds, exceptional shooter, hard worker

Andi Gayner, Dassel Cokato, F, Senior-Schools All Time Leading Rebounder, Top 5 in All Time Scoring, 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, great leader of the team

Anna Schmitt, Waconia, PG, Junior-All Conf, All State HM, Team MVP, 30 pts, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, shooting 55% from the floor, called the engine that makes the team go.

Hannah Norlin, Litchfield, C, Junior-16.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, Physical and relentless player, 15 double doubles this year, hard worker, gym rat

Kristin Klitzke, WM, G, Freshman-All Conference, 15.9 pts, 3 assists, 4.5 reb, 2nd year varsity player, guards opponents top player, very good ability to drive to the hoop

Steph Klockmann, GSL, F, Senior-All Conference, Set single game scoring record in school history (52 pts), Averaged around 15 points and 10 rebounds per game, 50% FG Shooting, Captain, great leader off the court, very knowledgeable

Karlea Kyllo, LP/HT, G, Sophomore-3x all conference, 15 pts, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals per game.  3 year starter that rarely sees a break, defends the opponents top player, already a 1,000 point scorer.

Courtney Scoblic, LP/HT, F, Senior-3x All conference, 19.2 pts, 7.8 rebounds, called the backbone of the team, big reason the team has gone to the past two section championship games, 1,600 career points, 800+ career rebounds

Lauren Manteuffel, Mayer Lutheran, F, Senior-2x All Conference, 13.5 pts, 8.5 rebounds, led team in charges taken, can be dominant on offense and defense, great leadership and work ethic.

Michelle Melsha, BLHS, F, Senior-2x Team MVP, 14.8 pts, 12.6 rebounds, strong post player, improved player, 15 double doubles this year. 

Hannah Spaulding, Annandale, F, Junior-2x All Conference, 3 year starter, 15.6 pts, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, hard worker, dominate player, a game changer, drawing attention from D2 schools.

Kaylie Brazil, NYA, G, Junior-2x All Conference, 18.9 pts, 6.3 steals, 5 assists, 1,000 point scorer, only 12 points from schools all time scoring record, helped team to Section title game and MRC Title. 

Maddie Christie, Hutchinson, F, Senior-10.4 pts, over 100 rebounds for third straight year, led team in FG%, Captain, All Conference

Halley Busse, GFW, G, Freshman-All Conference, already a 1,200 point scorer, School Record 25.7 pts per game, School Record 5.7 steals per game, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, creates a lot of opportunities, tremendous basketball ability, holds 9 School Season or single game records. 

All Area Coach of the Year:  Jason Kuehn, HLWW-CMC Conference Champions, Section Champions, helped team to only 4th State Tournament berth.
