Groundbreaking is set for this afternoon (Tuesday) for the new hospital in Olivia.
Last year it was decided to construct a new 18-bed hospital on the east side of Olivia on the south side of Highway 212. The cost will be around 25-million dollars with most of the cost covered by a USDA loan.
John Monson, Senior Vice President of Investments with Ag Star out of Mankato is one of the investors and will be speaking during the 2 p.m. groundbreaking ceremony at the new hospital site.
Monson says this project is just the kind that Ag Star likes to invest in. Monson says once they begin construction, it’s hoped they can have the shell enclosed by the time next winter begins. The new hospital will be smaller than the current 25-bed facility, which is now 62 years old, but will have the latest amenities.
No decision has been made yet on what will happen with the current building.
The groundbreaking ceremony begins at 2 p.m. at 100 Healthy Way, off of Highway 12 where 1st Street and Fairview meet.
