Hutchinson Police are investigating the allegation that an Elk River woman tried to use a counterfeit 50 dollar bill to pre-pay for gasoline.
An employee at Super America on Highway 7 West told police that a woman gave him the bill Sunday evening, but when the employee tested the bill, it was found to be fake. When the suspect was told the bill was not real, she said it was her kids’ bill and it was just a joke and asked for the bill back. The employee said no, and that it was a serious matter. The woman became upset and tried unsuccessfully to try and take the bogus bill back.
She then left the store.
Information obtained by police led them to believe the suspect is an Elk River woman and police are following up on their leads.
