Vikings announce 2014 Schedule 24 Apr 14

Eden Prairie, MN (April 23, 2014) – For the fifth time in the past six seasons the Vikings will start the regular season on the road when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams in Head Coach Mike Zimmer’s debut with Minnesota. It will mark the first time in history the two franchises will open the regular season against each other.

The Vikings will kick off their two-year stay at TCF Bank Stadium when they host the New England Patriots in Week 2.

For the first time since 2010 the Vikings will travel to New Orleans to play the Saints when the two meet in Week 3.

Mike Zimmer and the Vikings will host the Atlanta Falcons in a Week 4 matchup with a 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff. Zimmer spent the 2007 season as the Falcons’ Defensive Coordinator before taking over the same position in Cincinnati in 2008.

Week 5 will see the Vikings travel to Green Bay to play the Packers on Thursday Night Football for the third time in franchise history. Each team has won a game with the last contest coming on 12/21/06.

In Week 6, the Vikings will host the Lions for the 53rd time in franchise history. The Vikings won the 2013 season finale, the last game played at the Metrodome, 14-13. Since 1998, the Vikings have won 15-of-16 home games against Detroit.

The Vikings will play on the road in back-to-back weeks in Week 7 and Week 8 starting with a game at Buffalo on 10/19/14. Minnesota will seek their first victory at Raymond James Stadium when they travel to Tampa Bay for a contest with the Buccaneers on 10/26/14.

For a series-record fifth consecutive season, the Vikings and Redskins will meet when Washington comes to Minnesota in Week 9. The Vikings won last season’s game, 34-27, after outscoring the Redskins 20-6 in the 2nd half.

Following the Week 10 bye, the Vikings will get back in action on the road against division-foe Chicago for a Week 11 contest, looking for their first road win over Chicago since 2007.

The Vikings will host three consecutive home games when they play Green Bay, Carolina and the New York Jets in Week 12, 13 and 14, respectively. The 11/23/14 contest against the Packers will mark the 109th contest in series history. Minnesota will host Carolina for the second straight season and are one-of-four 2013 playoff teams on the Vikings 2014 schedule. The 12/7/14 game against the Jets will be the first time the Vikings have hosted New York since 12/17/06.

Following the three-game homestand, the Vikings will embark on consecutive road games for the second time in 2014 when they travel to Detroit andMiami. The Vikings currently hold a 31-21-1 record when playing at Detroit. The Vikings will play at Miami for the fifth time in team history when they face the Dolphins in Week 16. Offensive Coordinator Norv Turner served in the same role with Miami from 2002-03 and Defensive Coordinator George Edwards had two stints coaching the Dolphins linebackers (2005-09, 2012-13).

The Vikings will close their first season on the campus of the University of Minnesota in the season finale against Chicago. The contest will be a rematch of the first NFL game played at TCF Bank Stadium following the collapse of the Metrodome roof in 2010.
