63-year-old Eugene Zumhofe of Cyrus made his first appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court in Willmar Friday on a felony charge of Escape From Custody-Held Pursuant to Lawful Arrest, While on Charge or Conviction or Adjudication.
KWLM reports the former pro wrestler known as Buck Rock and Roll Zumhofe is accused of making a dash for the front door of the courthouse March 5th after a jury found him guilty on 12 counts of criminal sexual conduct. He was stopped by courthouse guards.
In court Friday no bail was set for Zumhofe on the escape charge because he is currently in prison serving a 310 month sentence on the criminal sexual conduct convictions. His application for a public defender was accepted, but it won’t be his attorney from the sex trial, Carter Griener, because he may be called as a witness in the escape case. And the judge in the sex trial, David Mennis, may also be called, so the escape case will be heard by another judge, possibly Don Spilseth.
Zumhofe’s next court appearance is a Rule 8 Hearing, set for the afternoon of May 19th.
