GSL takes home bronze in State Baseball Tournament 13 Jun 14

After a semi final loss to St. Cloud Cathedral earlier in the day the Glencoe Silver Lake Panthers recovered beat Kasson Mantorville to finish in 3rd place in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament.

In the days first game, GSL fell 6-0 to the #1 seeded St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders.  The Panthers fell behind early, giving up 3 runs in the first inning, and then fell behind 4-0 with a Jeff Fasching Solo Home Run.  The Crusaders tacked on 2 more runs in the 7th.  That was more than enough for SCC Pitcher Brindley Theisen.  He threw a complete game 3 hit shutout.

That put GSL into the 3rd place game where they would face Kasson Mantorville who had just lost 19-3 to Fairmont.  KM was the defending state champions, but couldn’t stop the hit parade as the Panthers took over where Fairmont left off.  GSL scored 12 runs on 9 hits and 11 walks.  Panther Shortstop Teddy Petersen went 3 for 4, with a doulble, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI.  Second Baseman Reed Wawrzyniak went 2 for 3, with a walk, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored.  RBI’s also came from Bennett Bielke, Aaron Boraas, and Mason Goettl.  Speaking of Bielke, he was the surprise pitcher on the mound for the Panthers and threw a gem.  Bielke threw a complete game giving up 4 runs or 5 hits.

GSL finished 19-5 on the season.
