Hutchinson hadn’t been to the state tournament in American Legion Baseball in 29 years, but you’d have never known it by the way they played on the Tournament’s first day.  Hutchinson opened up with a 16-3 win over St. Paul Hamline.  Every Hutch starter had a hit in that game, while 8 of the 9 starters scored a run, and 8 of the 9 starters had at least one RBI.  In the nightcap, Hutchinson got down 5-0 after a 1/2 inning of play, but chipped away at the lead and took a lead of their own late to come away with a 10-6 win over New Ulm Gold.  Hutch tied the score in the 6th, then took the lead in the 7th for good.  Mitch Kurth had a single, 2 doubles, and a triple, to go along with 4 RBI in the New Ulm win.  After the game Coach Alex Brown commented on the day:
