Hutchinson opened up Sunday play with a big win, but ended the day on a down note after being eliminated and finishing in 4th place.
In the day’s first game Hutchinson beat Nisswa 14-8. Hutchinson scored 13 runs in the 3rd inning, highligted by a 3 run Home Run from Marcus Hahn, and a Grand Slam Home Run from Fernando Villegas. Matt Kieser picked up the win in that game.
In the nightcap, things started off well as Hutchinson scored 5 runs in the 1st inning, 3 runs in the 3rd, and by the time the 8th inning started Hutchinson had a 10-5 lead over St. Cloud. But St. Cloud scored 5 runs in that 8th inning, then one more in the 9th and another in the 10th after Hutchinson had tied the game back up in the bottom of the 9th. St. Cloud came away with the 12-11 victory and sent Hutchinson to a 4th place finish.
Over the 5 games, Hutchinson scored 58 runs…while Catcher Fernando Villegas led the tournament with 3 Home Runs. It was the first time in 29 years Hutchinson had been to the State Legion Baseball Tournament.
