The 65th Annual Cokato Corn Carnival will be Monday through Wednesday, August 11 – 13, 2014. A number of activities are planned to provide enjoyment and entertainment for the entire family in the heart of downtown Cokato, at Peterson Park.
Events begin on Sunday, August 10, with a community-wide ecumenical worship service at 7:00 p.m. on the main stage in Peterson Park.
Monday, August 11 brings the parades and stage entertainment. The Kiddie parade begins at 6:00 p.m. In a change from previous years for the Kiddie parade, there are no formal categories—entrants are encouraged to be as creative as they want. Please be mindful that no motorized vehicles–including riding lawn mowers–are permitted. All Kiddie Parade participants will receive participation prizes—including complimentary ride tickets for the Midway. The main parade will follow immediately after the conclusion of the Kiddie parade.
Following the conclusion of the parades will be entertainment by The Mahlstedt & Kingery Family Band on the main stage, sponsored by the Cokato Ministerial Association. The food stands, bingo, and midway rides in the park will also be open Monday evening. Please note that there will be no free corn-on-the-cob served Monday evening. The Friends of the Cokato Library will host their annual book sale from 2 – 6 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the library/museum building.
Activities for Tuesday, August 12, begin at noon when the midway and rides open. Food stands will also be open beginning in the afternoon. Registration for the children’s prize drawings runs from noon to 3:00 p.m., with drawings at 3:15 p.m. You must be present to win the Children’s Prize drawing. Information stands and button sales begin at 12:30 p.m. Bingo starts at 1:30 p.m. The FOCAL book sale continues from 2 – 6 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the library/museum building. Free corn-on-the-cob is served from the Corn Stand from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. The culmination of the day will be the 67th Annual Miss Cokato Coronation ceremony, on the main stage, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Nine candidates are vying for the title of Miss Cokato and two princesses. Introduction of visiting royalty, farewells from reigning royalty, and the crowning of the 2014-15 royalty are part of the ceremony.
Wednesday, August 13th’s, activities also begin in the afternoon with the children’s prize drawings, button sales, bingo, midway and rides, and food stands. Registration for the children’s prize drawings runs from noon to 3:00 p.m., with drawings at 3:15 p.m. Free corn-on-the-cob runs again from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday evening’s entertainment schedule begins with the Mid Minnesota Concert Band at 7:00 p.m. Beginning at 8:00, the a-cappella stylings of The Half Steps will entertain the crowd. Their performance is being underwritten by the Cokato Branch of the Great River Regional River Library with funds from the Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment approved in 2008 by the voters of Minnesota.
The finale of the carnival arrives at 10:00 p.m., Wednesday, with the drawing for the cash prizes — $1000, $1500, and $2500; along with seven $100 alternate prizes – and the separate drawing for 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.
Carnival attendees are encouraged to purchase $3 raffle tickets to be eligible for the cash prize drawings and to receive the free corn-on-the-cob, served from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
