Willmar Man Sentenced in Stabbing Incident 25 Sep 14

The 29-year-old Willmar man alleged to have stabbed a man this July in Willmar was sentenced Wednesday to a year in prison, which was stayed for one year.

Marvin Roberto Paz was convicted of third-degree assault and placed on five years of probation.

The West Central Tribune reports Paz originally faced a charge of second-degree assault, which was reduced to third-degree assault as part of a plea agreement.

According to the criminal complaint, the stabbing occurred July 5 in the 400 block of Becker Avenue Southwest.

Willmar police officers arrived to find a man on the sidewalk, covered in blood. The man was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital, where an officer interviewed him.

The man allegedly told an officer that Paz had come into his bedroom and cut him on his arm and leg. The officer saw a cut on the man’s left arm that was about 4 inches long and another wound on his left hip.
