(first time ever Hutch scored 70 in a game)

Current Record: 9-0

This Week’s Opponent: Waseca (9-1)

About the Opponent: It’s a rematch of last year’s Section Championship as the Waseca Blue Jays come to town.  The Blue Jays are similar to last year in the way they will play.  QB Isaac Highum will lead the offense for the Jays.  If that name sounds familiar, is should.  Highum took over at QB early in last years game after an injury knocked out the starter.   The Jays will try and run, and when they do throw…watch for the Tight End to be targeted.  Defensively you’ll see an aggressive defense, that again will try and blitz like Mankato East did.

Key Hutch Players: We’ll go with the Hutchinson offensive edge players.  Like last week against East, one of the best ways to beat a blitz is to get to the outside and away from the blitz.  Maybe that means passing to a WR, maybe that’s getting RG5 on a sweep…there are a lot of choices to try and beat a blitz.

Games Storylines:

  1. Offensively Hutchinson has been great at getting quick starts that put a lot of pressure on opposing teams.  Hutchinson is on a blistering offensive pace.  They’ve scored 486 points this year.  Hutch is on pace to score 702 points.  Yes, that would break a state record.
  2. Defensively for Hutch they will have to watch the running game of Waseca.  The QB  is very good at running the ball, plus they have some good backs.  Identifying who has the ball will be key, and then swarming to said ball carrier.   Don’t sleep on the pass though.  Waseca can throw the ball…when they do they like their TE.
  3. Mistakes.  This is a game where mistakes can hurt you.  15 yard penalties will hurt more.  Take care of the ball, play with your heads on straight and things will be fine.
  4. Expect the Kitchen Sink.  It doesn’t need to be said the loser of this game is eliminated, but for Waseca who’s a clear underdog…we expect them to empty the playbook.  Now if something more conventional works then we expect they’ll stay with it.  Otherwise, watch out for reverses, RB/WR throws…basically the kitchen sink.
  5. A useless/interesting fact for you…Waseca is one of the smallest schools in Class 4A.  MSHSL enrollment figures show Waseca at 500 kids in grades 9-12…Glencoe Silver Lake, a class 3A School, has an enrollment of 486.
