Cokato Museum Open House/Fortelling the Future 29 Dec 14

The Cokato Museum & Historical Society invites the public for its 15th Annual New Year’s Open House on Sunday, January 4, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  The open house will take place in the Centennial Room of the library/museum building.

At the open house, the Finnish custom of “melting tin” will be demonstrated. The custom involved the melting of small pieces of tin and then casting the liquid into a pail of cold water.  The tin then forms unique shapes.  Those shapes foretell what the upcoming year will hold for tin bearer.  The custom is traditionally done on New Year’s Eve and was meant to be a way for folks to gather and both reflect on the previous year and look forward to the new one.

This event is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.

The Cokato Museum is a cooperative effort of the city of Cokato and the Cokato Historical Society.
