Community Action Organizations to Merge 03 Aug 15

Heartland Community Action of Willmar and Western Community Action of Marshall are moving ahead with a merger. The board of directors for the two Community Action Agencies voted unanimously July 15 to merge the two organizations and set Oct. 1, of next year as the target date.

It will create a combined organization with more than 200 staff members to serve residents in Cottonwood, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lincoln, Lyon, McLeod, Meeker, Redwood and Renville counties.

Directors Joan Macik, of Heartland Community Action, and John Fitzgerald of Western Community Action, look to expand programs and services unique to the respective agencies to serve residents in all of the counties.

Both organizations expect to retain all of their existing staff and offices with no staff relocation expected.
