Tiger Gameday – Week 6 24 Sep 15

Tiger Gameday – Week 6, 2015 Season

Last Game:  Hutchinson 43 DC 7

Game Recap: The Hutchinson Football team jumped out early in the first quarter and never looked back, beating Dassel Cokato 43-7 in East Central District Football.  For Hutchinson Coach Andy Rostberg is was career win #150 for him.  Rostberg is in his 17th season as head coach, and boasts a career winning percentage over 80%.  In this one, FB Kendall Glaser ran for 179 yards and 3 TD’s, while RB Isaiah Nelson went for 141 yards and a TD.  Defensively the Hutch Tigers forced 6 turnovers.

Current Record: 3-2

This Week’s Opponent: Litchfield (3-2)

About the Opponent: The Dragons are MUCH improved over last year’s 1-8 squad.  You could see some offense in this one.  Litchfield likes to run the spread offense, and they have a very good left handed Quarterback to run it as well.  They’ll throw maybe 70% of the time in this one.  Defensively, Litchfield will be aggressive trying to stop things with the blitz.

Key Hutch Players:    The Defensive Line gets the spotlight in this one.  The line will have two key jobs, and they’ll need to do them well.  Job #1…rush the passer.  Litchfield will throw a bunch so they’ll need to get pressure, get hands up in the passing lanes, do anything to try and disrupt the timing.  Job #2…stop the run.  If the Dragons can get the run game going it makes their pass SO much more effective.  Taking one phase of the game away helps game planning.

Games Storylines:

  1.  Hutchinson’s Secondary came through with some interceptions last week, and the defense overall performed well with 6 turnovers.  They’ll need to make more plays this week.  Litchfield’s spread offense will throw the ball, and want to get the ball out quick.  DB’s will need to be ready.
  2. For the Hutchinson Offense, the Running Game….RB’s and OL…need to continue to improve.  They had maybe their best game collectively last week and need to build off that.  This team isn’t built for a quick strike, or for passing too much.  That means for the Hutch O to run correctly, the run game has got to be there.
  3.  It’s homecoming for Hutchinson Friday night, so I’ll break out this quote we say most years… “the Dance isn’t much fun, if you don’t win the game.”  Basically we mean it’s wonderful to take part in all the activities, and make some memories.  But there still is a football game to play, focus on that…then focus on the dance.
  4. Some other Keys to the game…Turnover battle, already touched on that a bit but part of the turnover battle is on your offense too.  Need to hold the ball in addition to getting some TO’s…Litchfield has a lot of two way players, how tired will they be in the second half?…Litchfield will blitz a bit, there’s potential for big plays there
  5. A useless/interesting fact… Litchfield graduate John Carlson Jr is best known for football and going on to the NFL, but did you you know not only was Carlson an All American in Football in High School…he was also a Preseason McDonald’s All American in Basketball in his senior season of 2003.  Carlson was not chosen for the Mcdonald’s all American game that year, but if he had who would’ve he played with?  Chris Paul and LeBron James.
