MnDot-Let’s Get Ready for Winter! 25 Sep 15

(MNN/Minneapolis, MN) — Most Minnesotans aren’t ready to think about snow and cold, but the Minnesota Department of Transportation is ready.

More than 100 snowplow operators are being trained on how to handle the rough road conditions of a Minnesota winter.

The training session started Monday and runs through October second, at the Camp Ripley training facility.

Snowplows will be seen on Highway 10 and Highway 371 in Little Falls throughout the next few weeks.

The training program, known as SPOT, is a two-week session that teaches safety measures, plowing techniques and best practices.

Operators will also learn about new equipment, policies and procedures.

A second training session will take place October 19th through the 30th, and will train an additional 70 operators.
